Creating Just Futures Now through collaboration, deep respect for the land, and mutal aid networking
This collective was formed through a shared love of making collaborative arts and experiencing the magic of the ocean shore in Port Greville. The collective brings together over 40 years of arts and organizing with experience running local Nova Scotia Ontario and Transnational artist residences and healing retreats.
We are situated in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. Gathering people at the Merriam houses, we honour the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” Mi’kmaq, Wəlastəkwiyik (Maliseet), and Passamaquodd by building ongoing relations of solidarity, kinship and care with Mi’kmaq peoples as uninvited guests in their territories. These treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources but in fact recognized Mi’kmaq and Wəlastəkwiyik (Maliseet) titles and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations. We are all Treaty people. Mi’kma’ki includes all of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, part of New Brunswick, the Gaspé region of Quebec, part of Maine, and southwestern Newfoundland. We aspire to be good stewards of the land here, supporting ecological diversity and living in sustainable ways. We invite all of our family, friends & guests into this covenant.
We are a collective of multi-disciplinary and community engaged artists for social change. Our members have diverse backgrounds and experiences and hail from 2SLGBTQ, disabled/mad, low income, racialized, white, settler & indigenous artist communities who feel a passion for collaborative creative decolonization practices, liberatory world making and systemic change.
The collective's mission is to convene, nourish, cross pollinate and collaborate with diverse artists for social & ecological change, especially artists from marginalized communities who might not otherwise have access to the beauty and inspiration of the Bay of Fundy.
